immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Studies of the Hemangiopericytoma

Abstract
Hemangiopericytoma, first described by Stouts and Murray as vascular tumor mposed of spindle-shaped or round cell proliferating around endothelial-lined pillaries. This tumor is acknowledged as being that presents extraordinary difficulty
diagnosis
due
to lack of cytologic features by light microscopy. Ultrastructural study three cases of hemangioepericytoma showed spindle-cells enveloped by basal laminate material, cytoplasmic filaments, and interdigitating cytoplasmic processes. Evidence
smooth
muscle differentiation was not present. Immunohistochemical studies on 10 ses of hemangiopericytoma yielded negative reaction with cytokeratin, desmin and ctor-VIII related antigen and consistent positive reaction with vimentin. We concluded at
in
making a diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma, one should evaluate the nstellation of findings of immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.
